Canfield swimmers excel at league meet

Neighbors | Submitted.The 2012 Canfied Swim team (pictured) became champions at the YSL Championship meet on Aug. 4 at the Boardman Swim Club. At that meet the boys 15-18 free relay team of Connor Brady, Drew Bennett, Nicky Montalto, and Daniel Bogen set a new pool record with a time of 1.40.05.

The Canfield swim team won the Youngstown Swim League team title Aug. 4, setting a meet record in the process. The meet was contested at the Boardman Swim Club and included teams from Canfield, Boardman, Applewood, Poland, FAST, CC, WOC and Logan.

Canfield’s Connor Brady, Drew Bennet, Nicky Montalto and Daniel Bogan broke the pool record in the free relay with a time of 1.40.05. The previous record of 1.40.65 was set by Canfield swimmers Gavin Trebilcock, Ryan O’Malley, Drew Wellham, and Garret Trebilcock in 2010.

Canfield’s Cullen Brady (11-12 boys) won three events, including the medley relay, 50 backstroke and butterfly. The Cards also had two double-first place winners at that meet. Morgan Cleevely (11-12 girls) won the medley and free relay events, while Connor Brady (15-18 boys) won the 50 backstroke and free relay.

Other winners for Canfield included the 11-12 girls medley team members Gina Landers, Mackenzie Hammond, and Jillian Baker, the 11-12 boys medley relay team members Max Dawson, Dom Velasquez, and Luke Pallante, the 13-14 boys medley team of Jared Rothbauer, Matthew Bogen, Alec Gaetano, and Alex DiThomas, and the 15-18 boys free relay team members and record-breakers Drew Bennett, Nicky Montalto, and Daniel Bogen.
