Canfield booster club sponsors soccer camp

The Canfield Soccer Boosters hosted its annual Summer Kid’s Camp June 18-22 at the Herbert Road Fields. The boosters sponsored the youth soccer camp in conjunction with the Canfield High School boys and girls soccer team members, coach Phil Simone, girls junior varsity coach Aleesha Denmeade and boys junior varsity coach, and 2007 Canfield High School graduate, Kyle Reese.
Each day, campers practiced passing, shooting, dribbling or defense with an emphasis on individual skills, teamwork, sportsmanship and fun.
The boosters added a little more fun to the camp by scheduling daily themes, including: Monday as Military Day, during which campers wore military attire; Tuesday as Tie Dye Day, during which campers wore tie dye clothing; Wednesday as World Cup Day, during which campers dressed up for their World Cup team; Thursday was Team Spirit Day, during which the campers wore their recreational league jerseys and Friday was Funky Friday, during which campers were encouraged to dress as crazily as they wanted.
The club received prize donations from Eurosport and soccer.com. Other snacks and prizes were donated by high school soccer parents.
On the last day of camp, the boosters held drawings with each of the camper’s names included. Prizes awarded were soccer balls, T-shirts, posters and koozies.
One winner received a ball signed by each member of the high school boys soccer team and another winner received a ball signed by each member of the girls soccer team.
The camp is a fundraiser for Canfield Soccer Boosters, with the proceeds going back into the program for various team expenses.
At the end of the camp, Coach Simone addressed the campers.
“Thanks for coming out. It looked like everyone was having fun. I would also like to thank the boosters for organizing the camp,” Simone said.
Simone also invited all campers to watch his teams in action.
“Our teams would like to invite you all to attend a high school game. If you wear your camp T-shirt or recreational jersey, you will get in free,” Simone said.
Upon completion of the camp, each participant received a camp T-shirt, which were donated by Brian Governor, of P&W Marketing, and a soccer camp dog tag.
