Immaculate Heart of Mary to host trunk sale

The Immaculate Heart of Mary will host a “Treasures in Your Trunk Sale,” sponsored by its social concerns group, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on Sept. 15. The sale will take place in the church parking lot, 4500 Norquest Blvd, Austintown. Vendor spaces are available for early registrations at $10 per space and money must be received by Sept. 13. There are 100 spaces available.

Vendors may register for $15 the day of the sale. No refunds will be given for any reason. Take your own table (up to 8 feet) for setting up in front of your trunk. Homemade baked goods, food and beverages will be on sale as well. A used book sale will take place in the Parish Center at the same time.

Vendors needed for festival and craft show

Vendor/crafter space is still available for the Shepherd of the Valley–Poland Family Fall Festival and craft show. This year’s event will feature an array of outdoor activities for the whole family, including Friendship Hill horse carriage rides, bounce around, face painting, carnival games, music, concessions, bake sale, auctions, prizes and more.

The festival and craft show will take place on Sept. 22 from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at Shepherd of the Valley in Poland (301 Western Reserve Road). Interested crafters/vendors can call Shepherd of the Valley-Poland at 330-726-7110, extension 0. Funds raised at this event will support resident activities.

Fitch Class of 1977 to host 35th reunion

The Austintown Fitch Class of 1977 will host its 35th class reunion on Labor Day weekend. Disciples Christian Church to host outdoor concert

Disciples Christian Church is hosting a free outdoor Bluegrass and Gospel concert Aug. 24 from 6:30-8 p.m., featuring the group Dan Garrett and Limited Edition. The church is located at 565 Boardman-Canfield Road (Route 224 across from the Giant Eagle Get-Go) in Boardman. Those attending should bring a lawn chair or blanket. This event will take place inside the church if it rains. The concert is free, but refreshments will be available for a donation to the Mahoning County Habitat for Humanity. Highway Tabernacle hosts back-to-school event

The ‘Back to School Blow Out’ is a free giveaway of clothes, shoes and more for infants, children and adults that will take place today from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Family Life Center located at 3000 S. Raccoon Road, Austintown. This event is open to the public and is on a first-come, first-served basis.

There are no income or residency restrictions. Child care for preschoolers and toddlers will be provided so adults can shop. Bags and a free lunch will also be provided. Fitch Band Night to be Aug. 27

Thre Austintown Fitch Band Night is Aug. 27 at the Fitch High School football field. Show your support for your local high school band and musicians at this event while seeing shows from other schools around the area as well. The music starts at 7 p.m.

Arts and crafts show set for September

An arts and crafts show will be held Sept. 16 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. (set-up is from 8-10:30 a.m.) at Austintonwn Township Park on Kirk Road. Entries are accepted for crafts, photography, pencil/ink drawings and paintings in oils, watercolor or acrylics. All works must be made by the artist or craftsman; no kits will be accepted.

The entry fee is $20 for an indoor 8-foot table (limited availability) or 10 foot by 10 foot outdoor area, in which to provide your own set-up. No additional fees or commissions for sales will be charged. Deadline for entries is Sept. 12. For more information, call Celesta at 330-799-1652.

All proceeds from the entry fees will be donated to Austintown Township Park for improvements.

Curves collecting school supplies to help needy children

Curves of Austintown, located at 4330 New Road, will be collecting new book bags and school supplies for needy children in Austintown. Anyone wanting to drop off donations can do so during regular business hours in August. Anyone interested in a membership will receive a discount with their donation. Call 330-793-9802 for details.

School of Autism needs back-to-school supplies

The Potential Development Program’s School of Autism will be holding a back-to-school supply drive throughout the month of August. The items collected will be used in the kindergarten through eighth grade classes during the upcoming school year. Some of the items needed for the upcoming school year include crayons, colored pencils, #2 pencils, pens, paper, tissues, construction paper, scissors, 2 pocket folders, glue sticks and rulers. Donations can be dropped off at the School of Autism, 880 E. Indianola Ave. Youngstown, between 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Local doctor offers free health lectures

Dr. Kathleen Padgitt, local kidney specialist, is presenting a series of lectures for healthy living. The program will be held at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center’s Azalea Room. The Boardman Optimists, Boardman Dairy Queen and Boardman Police are sponsoring a Bike Helmet Safety program this summer for Valley children.

During August, officers will be handing out “sweet citations” to children seen wearing their bike helmets. These citations can be redeemed for a free small ice cream cone at the Boardman DQ, located at 6120 Market Street.
