Weathersfield trustees oppose brine injection

MINERAL RIDGE
Weathersfield Township trustees have approved a resolution opposing any brine injection wells in the township.
Trustee Chairman Steve Gerberry said trustees “will do anything to oppose” the wells. He noted that a recent legal ad published in area newspapers indicates a brine well is being considered for a local area. Township Administrator Dave Pugh has determined the location to be on state Route 169, the same area for which trustees and Niles are working to create a Joint Economic Development District.
Also Tuesday, trustees approved the lease/purchase of two new police cruisers and two trucks for the road department at a total cost of $147,029 and approved a resolution to participate in the Trumbull County Land Reutilization Corp. Moving Forward OhioGrant Program.
The county will receive $1.275 million from a settlement obtained by Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine with five of the nation’s largest mortgage servicers over foreclosure abuses, fraud and unfair and deceptive mortgage practices. Trustees are committing $5,000 to the program, and have applied for a 50 percent funding match to pay for demolition of three abandoned or vacant properties.
Trustees have placed a 1.75-mill, five-year levy on the November ballot to generate $239,841 a year for equipment for police, fire, road and cemetery departments.
