The rain created a one-hour delay for the Mahoning Valley Scrappers’ first-ever New York-Penn League All-Star game.

The National League made their American League rivals miserable the rest of the night.

Ramon Quinn of the Williamsport Crosscutters blazed around the bases on a sharp grounder into the left field corner for an inside-the-park home run in the eighth inning, and the Americans self-destructed in a four-run ninth inning in losing 8-1 at Eastwood Field in the league’s eighth annual midseason classic.

The American League didn’t help its cause, committing two wild pitches in the ninth for the Nationals on a cool night that saw the league unveil its first Hall of Fame.

Tyler Hanover prevented a shutout by blasting a Blake Ford pitch over the left field wall.

The Nationals scored the first run when Scrapper catcher Charlie Valerio misjudged Pat Wisdom’s towering pop-up at home plate.

Wisdom then singled and took third on a blooper to right by Jauncito Martinez. He scored on Breyvic Valera’s deep fly to center.

The Nationals scored twice in the fifth. Esterlin Martinez doubled to deep center off Kristopher Hall. He took third on Wisdom’s ground out and scored on Jay Martinez’ single to left.

Martinez then stole second and third, scoring on catcher Sam Kimmel’s throwing error at third.

The Nationals ended with 11 hits to 6 for the Americans.

National League designated hitter Chris Serritella of the Williamsport Crosscutters won the Home Run Derby, held before the game, with five homers. The Scrappers’ Joe Sever, who blasted five homers in the opening round to represent the American League in the final, finished with one.

Before the game, the New York-Penn League announced the inaugural class of its new Hall of Fame.

The inductees were Wade Boggs (Elmira Pioneers, 1976), Nellie Fox (Jamestown Falcons, 1944), Phil Niekro (Wellsville Braves, 1959); Tony Perez (Geneva Redlegs, 1961); Jim Rice (Williamsport Red Sox, 1971); Warren Spahn (Bradford Bees, 1940); Robin Yount (Newark Co-Pilots, 1973).
