Pa. man charged with throwing 4-year-old boy in pool

VANDERGRIFT, Pa. (AP) — A western Pennsylvania man has been jailed on charges that he tried to drown a 4-year-old boy by throwing him into a pool after the boy reportedly defended his pregnant mother from being beaten by the man.

Online court records don’t list an attorney for 29-year-old Edward Wisniewski, of Vandergrift, who remained in the Westmoreland County prison today on attempted homicide and other charges in the incident about 8 p.m. Monday.

Police say Wisniewski was arguing with 20-year-old Melissa Bailey because she suspected he was texting another woman. That’s when police say Wisniewski began beating Bailey whose 4-year-old son, Matthew Silvis, intervened cursing at Wisniewski to stop.

Police say that’s when Wisniewski grabbed the boy by the head and tossed him into the 4-foot-deep, above-ground pool. Police say Wisniewski eventually helped the boy out of the pool.
