Township police will work with the other law-enforcement departments and the Ohio Department of Public Safety to participate in the statewide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” mobilization to crack down on impaired driving.

The mobilization is from Wednesday through Sept. 3.

Taking and understanding prescription medications are the subjects of the free Senior Circle Lunch and Learn Program, “Medical Safety: Everything You Wanted to Know about Prescriptions Drugs but Were Afraid to Ask,” is Thursday at noon in Trumbull Memorial Hospital’s Cafe Conference Room.

Rep. Ryan to speak about ‘Mindfulness’

U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan of Niles, D-17th, author of “A Mindful Nation: How a Simple Practice Can Help Us Reduce Stress, Improve Performance, and Recapture the American Spirit,” will speak at 7 p.m. Monday at the Universal Cafe at First Unitarian Universalist Church of Youngstown, 1105 Elm St.

His topic will be “Mindfulness: A Paradigm Shift.”

City resident wins $1 million lottery prize

YOUNGSTOWN

A resident of Youngstown won a prize on an Ohio Lottery instant game. Lindsay J. Benedict won $1 million or $50,000 for 20 years on $300 Million Extravaganza.

Benedict chose the annuity, $50,000 for 20 years, instead of the cash option. After mandatory federal and state taxes totaling 31 percent, she receives a check for $34,500 for the next 20 years.

She purchased the ticket from University Food Sunoco, 590 Fifth Ave.

Parking lot closure

AUSTINTOWN

The park and ride lot at the Interstate 80 and state Route 46 interchange will be closed Thursday for upgrades through late September.

The current parking lot surface will be removed, the parking lot will be doubled in size, and a new asphalt surface will be installed, according to the Ohio Department of Transportation District 4.

This work is part of a $245,000 project to improve the park and ride lot.
