GIRARD

Police have seen a recent spike in reports of stolen or missing all-terrain vehicles and dirt bikes.

According to reports, there have been six cases of stolen vehicles in the last eight days around the area. The most recent occurred Monday morning on Morris Avenue when a victim reported his dirt bike had been taken from his garage.

On Thursday, police said they received two reports of stolen four-wheelers along Morris Avenue. One of the vehicles was found at a nearby home a short time later, while the other is still missing. The owner claims the missing vehicle is worth approximately $7,000. The theft occurred three days after a resident along St. Clair Street reported that two ATV’s were stolen from his garage Aug. 6. Chief Jeff Palmer said he can’t determine whether all the incidents are related, but police are investigating.

Liberty Township police said they received a report of a stolen four-wheeler Saturday at Goist Lane.

According to police reports, the four-wheeler was taken from a garage sometime Friday night. Liberty police said they don’t know if the same person is behind the recent thefts, but they also are investigating.
