Outreach events

NOW Youngstown, an interfaith outreach effort to promote peace in the city, has sponsored a series of community gatherings in crime areas. It is concluding summer events with a backpack giveaway and a final gathering.

Backpack giveaway: The event is planned Aug. 24 at Wilson Middle School, 2725 Gibson St., Youngstown. A free carnival from 3 to 6 p.m. will feature games, food, bounce-a-rounds. During this time, youth must register to receive a backpack. A youth service will follow with the backpack giveaway at 7 p.m. Sponsors are Community Initiative to Reduce Violence (CIRV) and NOW Youngstown.

Tent revival: To promote the backpack giveaway, Christ Centered Church has planned a “Taking Back the City, Reclaiming Our Children” revival at 6 p.m. Monday through Aug. 24 at Wilson Middle School. Participants are Elizabeth Baptist Church, Holy Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, Metro Assembly of God, Mount Calvary Pentecostal Church, Nevels Temple Church of God in Christ, New Bethel Baptist Church, Ohio Valley Teen Challenge, St. James Church of God in Christ, Spanish Evangelical Church, Sword of the Lord Ministries, Third Christian Church, Trinity Fellowship Church, Union Baptist Church, Unity Baptist Church and Victory Christian Center.

Aug. 29: NOW Youngstown continues its outreach events from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Metro Assembly of God, 2530 South Ave., Youngstown. Music, testimonies, mime, dance, games and food will be featured.
