Hundreds of Wind Jet airline passengers have been stranded due to the failure of Alitalia’s deal to purchase the Sicily-based low-cost carrier.

Wind Jet officially stopped operating flights Sunday during Italy’s peak summer holiday travel period.

Italy’s aviation authority has reached a deal with other carriers to take on passengers for an additional fee, but Italian media say some travelers are still stranded, including some 200 in Rome bound for Tel Aviv.

Barclays chief: I’ll go over entire business

The new chairman of Britain’s Barclays bank says he’ll undertake a top-to-bottom review of the scandal-tainted business, telling The Sunday Telegraph that he isn’t committed to any of his predecessor’s policies.

David Walker is charged with finding a replacement for Bob Diamond, who stepped down as chief executive of Barclays Bank PLC after it was fined $453 million for fixing a key market interest rate.
