Doctorate
Rural nursing research
Sister Barbara Wincik recently earned a doctorate of philosophy in nursing from Barry University, Miami Shores, Fla. Her dissertation focused on the role of nurses in rural areas and explored how they can be retained in these areas.
Her research garnered a doctoral award from Barry University’s division of nursing and a scholarship from Sigma Theta Tau, a nursing scholarship organization.
Sister Barbara has a master of science in nursing from the University of Cincinnati and a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the College of Mount St. Joseph in Cincinnati. She is a member of the nursing faculty at Xavier University.
Sister Barbara, the daughter of Marian R. Wincik and the late Bernard S. Wincik Sr. of Conneaut, Ohio, is a member of the Sisters of the Humility of Mary, Villa Maria, Pa.
SCOUTS
Niles Eagle Scout
Jaden Joseph Parise, son of Joseph and Lisa Parise and grandson of former Niles Mayor Joseph J. Parise, has earned the rank of Eagle Scout, Boy Scouting’s highest honor.
Jaden began his scouting journey as a Cub Scout with Pack 36 at Immaculate Conception Church in Columbus. He completed his scouting experience earning the Boys Scouts of America’s highest honor while a member of Troop 336 at Worthington’s St. Andrew’s Christian Church. His court-of-honor ceremony takes place at St. Andrew’s on Aug. 26.
Jaden is a junior at Worthington Kilbourne High School, where he is an active participant in television, film, theater and volleyball.
LAWYERS
Attorney appointed
Atty. James E. “Ted” Roberts of Poland, who is with the Youngstown law firm of Roth, Blair, Roberts, Strasfeld & Lodge, has been appointed by the Ohio State Bar Association’s board of governors to a seat on the association’s commission on judicial candidates.
Having recently completed its evaluation of Ohio Supreme Court candidates, the commission decides whether to recommend judicial candidates to the voters based on their legal knowledge and ability, professional competence, judicial temperament, integrity, personal responsibility and public and community service.
The association, whose mission is to promote high standards of legal practice and administration of justice, represents about 25,000 members of the bar and bench.
