Residents seek home rule on ballot
NORTH LIMA
Beaver Township residents Julia Fuhrman Davis and Patti Gorcheff have filed a petition for a writ of mandamus in the Ohio Supreme Court to compel the township trustees to accept their petitions to place home rule for the township on the Nov. 6 ballot.
Davis and Gorcheff sought Supreme Court intervention after the trustees rejected their home-rule petitions July 27.
The goal of home rule would be to allow residents to have more protections against the development of hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, a process in which sand, water and chemicals are pumped into shale at a high pressure to release the gas trapped within the rock thousands of feet underground.
