July car sales in Valley up over last year

Vehicle sales in the Mahoning Valley improved slightly last month compared with the same time last year, according to figures released Friday by the Automobile Dealers Association of Eastern Ohio.

Total sales of new vehicles were 2,110 in July, compared with 1,999 in July 2011. Bob & Chuck Eddy Chrysler Jeep on Mahoning Avenue in Austintown posted the most sales in the new-car category, with 143 sold, 38 more than the dealership sold last year.

Greenwood Chevrolet in Austintown was a close second, selling 130 new vehicles. Greenwood, however, posted the most used- vehicle sales, with 122, or 12 more than in July 2011. Total used-car sales recorded by the ADAEO were 3,282 in July, 102 more than last year. The Chevrolet Malibu was the top-selling new model, with 123 sales, compared with 118 in 2011. The Chevrolet Cruze appeared second on the top-40 new-model list, posting 113 sales.

In all, Chevrolet had six vehicles in the top 10 of the highest-selling new- model list, with the Silverado 1500, the Traverse, the Equinox and the Impala among them.
