The Boardman library hosted a program just for kids on the verge of their teenage years inspired by the popular book-turned-movie “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” July 31.

“It’s geared for tweens ages 10 and 11. It makes me feel great that they’re reading and I’m happy to see that they’re so enthusiastic,” said Boardman librarian John Yingling.

Kids were eager to participate and put their best foot forward during trivia games about the characters from the novel. There was even a chance for participants to cover their peers with toilet paper, which happened in the book. “It’s a funny book and I had a fantastic time getting wrapped in toilet paper,” said George Morar.

While kids played and enjoyed themselves, parents were more elated that they were reading more. George’s mother, Lynzz, said she was thrilled the event kept her son enthusiastic about reading during the summer.

“He loves reading, and it encourages him to continue to read event when he’s not in school. It was very effective and motivating and had good participation,” Lynzz said.
