POLICE CALLS
A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:
POLAND
Aug. 2
Identity theft: A Catarina Place woman discovered a $200 unauthorized charge to her credit-card account.
Aug. 4
Attempted burglary: Someone tried to enter a home in the 2500 block of Coblentz Drive through a side door.
Aug. 5
Assault: A Boardman man was not injured after reporting he had been assaulted on Coblentz Drive near state Route 170.
Menacing: Police arrested Leon P. Jacob, 35, of 9151 Springfield Road, on a warrant for menacing after a Shawbutte Drive man reported having been threatened.
Arrest: A traffic stop on U.S. Route 224 led to 26-year-old Raymond J. Abiti’s arrest. Abiti, of 116 Nesbitt Drive, New Castle, Pa., was charged with operating a vehicle impaired and released on a summons.
BOARDMAN
Aug. 3
Drugs: A traffic stop near Trenholm Road and Rockdale Avenue led to a citation against 44-year-old Marijo Mazon, 7240 Trenholm, charging him with marijuana possession and drug abuse (marijuana) when, authorities said, a police dog led to the discovery of a small quantity of suspected marijuana, a suspected marijuana pipe in tin foil and papers commonly used to roll marijuana.
Domestic violence: Mary Ann Frasher, 68, of 1958 Wendy Lane, Poland, was charged with the crime after her husband alleged Frasher had punched him roughly 15 times during an argument. The accuser, however, was not seriously injured.
Drugs: Police on a traffic stop near Midlothian Boulevard charged 32-year-old Sophia M. Derobbio, 4703 Southern Blvd., Boardman, with possession of a drug-abuse instrument after saying a syringe was found.
Theft: A man and a woman in their 20s stole 11 articles of clothing from Kohl’s, 383 Boardman-Poland Road.
Assault: A Poland man told police a man in his 20s punched the accuser during an argument between the two drivers near Tiffany Boulevard and Route 224.
Menacing: A Salinas Trail man said a woman threatened to have someone harm him.
Theft by deception: An Arlene Avenue man who bought a $200 cellphone online discovered he was unable to activate the device, possibly because it had been stolen or was intentionally disabled.
Assault: A Carlisle, Pa., man at a Market Street motel reported having been punched in the face.
Domestic violence: Christopher A. Brown, 32, of 4809 Erie St., Boardman, surrendered on charges of domestic violence and felonious assault after his girlfriend, of New Castle, Pa., alleged Brown had assaulted her. An official with Jameson Memorial Hospital in New Castle reported the victim was admitted with a broken jaw and numerous deep cuts, police said.
Criminal mischief: Eggs were tossed at a residence in the 5500 block of Lockwood Boulevard.
Counterfeit: A phony $50 bill was passed at a Get Go gas station, 6911 South Ave.
Theft: A Glendale Avenue woman reported $115 stolen from her car.
Theft: A woman reported her purse, a small amount of money and other property missing from her vehicle in the 100 block of Rockdale Avenue.
Identity theft: A Spring Park Drive woman learned someone had used her Social Security number without permission to file an income-tax return online.
Theft by deception: An employee with Seven Seventeen Credit Union, 7371 California Ave., told police a customer transferred a $2,000 cash advance to an account, then withdrew the money and used a bad check to make a loan payment.
Counterfeit: A Seven Seventeen Credit Union worker reported a customer provided an altered $7,500 child-support check.
Drugs: Officers picked up Raymond L. Williams, 21, and Daniel S. Krotky Jr., 22, at their residence, 134 Clifton Drive, Boardman, on warrants. Krotky also faced a felony charge of trafficking in marijuana when, authorities said, two bags of suspected marijuana, a scale and papers typically used to roll marijuana were found.
Stolen property: Hendy Previlor, 24, and Pascal Coulanges, 25, both of Brooklyn, N.Y., were charged with attempted theft as well as receiving stolen property and misuse of a credit card, both felonies, after a worker for Petco, 317 Boardman-Poland Road, suspected the two men returned merchandise that had been bought at another Petco location with fraudulent $100 travelers checks. Several bags of clothing thought to have been paid for with the checks were in their car; police also seized 23 iPods, $3,200 and gift cards, a report showed.
Aug. 4
Drug paraphernalia: Police responded to suspicious activity in the 5500 block of Market Street, where 19-year-old Kyle J. Sheesley, 5920 Lightner Place, Boardman, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. He had a container used to conceal a device commonly used to grind marijuana, as well as a digital scale, a report said.
Assault/criminal damaging: Two men on Afton Avenue each reported having been punched by the other, and one of the combatants said the other threw an object at his vehicle, breaking a rear window.
Burglary: To a residence in the 4400 block of South Avenue via forced entry through the front door. Stolen were $240 and two flat-screen TVs.
Burglary/aggravated menacing: A Cook Avenue woman alleged her former boyfriend pounded on her door before kicking it in and threatening to kill her.
Assault/unlawful restraint: A township woman alleged two employees with a Southern Park Mall nail salon grabbed and held her in the business against her will. The workers told police they tried to prevent the woman from leaving because she failed to pay for services, and that she fought with them, a report said.
Burglary: Took place in the 4800 block of Erie Street, where a 42-inch flat-screen TV was taken.
Breaking and entering: Copper piping was missing from the basement of a home in the 8000 block of Hitchcock Road.
Aug. 5
Arrest: Police took into custody 47-year-old Michael E. Davis, 60 Stanton Ave., Boardman, who was wanted on a warrant from Columbiana County. Davis also was accused by Florence, S.C., authorities of failing to appear in court on a warrant charging him with failure to register as a sex offender.
Theft: A Havenwood Drive woman reported the theft of a $20,000 pair of diamond earrings.
Criminal damaging: Several mailboxes were damaged on Paulin Drive, Beech Avenue and Walker Mill Road.
Misuse of a credit card: A Poland woman found out her card had been used at three township stores to make a total of about $3,100 worth of unauthorized charges.
Drugs: Police in the 7100 block of Glenwood Avenue charged Devon C. Clemons, 37, of 2046 McClure Ave., Youngstown, with trafficking in heroin as well as possession of crack cocaine and cocaine, all felonies, when, they said, one bag each of suspected cocaine and crack cocaine was found. Also discovered was a bag with two smaller bags of suspected heroin, a report showed.
Arrest: A traffic stop on South Avenue led to 35-year-old Wilson D. Traylor’s arrest. Traylor, of 475 W. Hylda Ave., Youngstown, was wanted on a probation-violation charge.
Aug. 6
Aggravated menacing: David F. Sirman of 164 Stadler Court, Boardman, was charged after a man at a Boardman-Poland Road fast-food restaurant alleged that Sirman had gotten out of a vehicle and pointed an assault rifle at him.
Theft: A worker with a Market Street motel reported the theft of a 10-inch electronic notepad from an office.
Criminal damaging: Someone tried to pry open a vehicle’s sun roof in the 5500 block of Market Street, causing it to malfunction.
Assault: A Meadow Lane woman reported another woman kicked the accuser’s leg after becoming agitated and having been asked to leave.
Possible theft: A Canfield man reported his wallet lost or stolen at a Boardman-Canfield Road bank.
Criminal damaging: A Bristlewood Drive man saw that a portion of a metal fence was damaged, apparently after a nearby tree had been cut down.
Attempted theft: A woman at the Southern Park Mall encountered a damaged door lock after someone had apparently tried to break into her vehicle.
Theft: A woman reported her $297 laptop computer stolen from a friend’s Mathews Road residence.
Criminal mischief: A boy pushed over a display case at Family Dollar, 4030 Market St.
Identity theft: A Jaguar Drive woman told officers she received a letter stating her deceased mother had a $262 delinquent account, then discovered an account had been opened in 2010 without authorization.
Identity theft: A Rockdale Avenue man inquiring about establishing an Internet connection learned an online account had been set up in his name without consent.
Vandalism: Mohammad S. Khan, 20, of 5610 Southern Blvd., Boardman, and Corey M. Brecker of 7790 Hitchcock Road, Boardman, faced charges of vehicular vandalism, a first-degree misdemeanor, after a Lynn Mar Avenue man alleged two people had struck his car with a fist, causing a dent, then threw large rocks and damaged the windshield and hood.
Aug. 7
Assault: A Cook Avenue woman alleged her former boyfriend grabbed and dragged her by the hair, then grabbed her neck and scratched her arms during an argument.
Breaking and entering: Someone pried open a garage door, broke into Christmas Automotive Repair, 6602 Market St., and removed an undisclosed sum of money.
Theft: Phillip G. Tunanidas, 61, of 290 Oakland Ave., Liberty Township, was charged with stealing $136 worth of merchandise from Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive.
Burglary: A key was used to enter an apartment in the 7000 block of West Boulevard. Eighteen Oxycodone pills were stolen.
Robbery: A man returning to his Glenwood Avenue home told police four men in their early to mid-20s wearing jeans and dark-colored hoodies approached before one of the men held a gun to his side and asked for money. The victim offered to give them the pair of boots he was wearing before the men walked away. No property was stolen, though, and the gunman did not point the firearm directly at the accuser, he told police.
Drugs: Authorities booked 31-year-old Andrea M. Kaltenbach, 948 Gary Ave., Girard, on a felony count of deception to obtain dangerous drugs. She was accused of being one of three people to have passed phony prescriptions at an area pharmacy.
Bad check: The owner of a piece of property in the 900 block of Afton Avenue reported receiving a $1,450 check drawn on a closed account.
Burglary: To a residence in the 7000 block of Glenwood Avenue, from which $3,000, two laptop computers and a Sony PlayStation 3 console were stolen.
Attempted fraud: An Austintown man interested in renting a home in the 4800 block of Brookwood Road told police he sent and received several emails, including one instructing him to mail a $600 security deposit to an address in Nigeria. The man became suspicious before a real-estate agency noted the residence was for sale, not for rent.
Aug. 8
Trespassing: Police responded to a complaint regarding someone pounding on the door to an Alburn Drive residence before charging 26-year-old Darius R. Holcomb, 758 Pineview St., Youngstown, with criminal trespassing. Holcomb was not permitted on his former girlfriend’s property, authorities said.
