Good Hope Lutheran Church took to the sky to teach children during the church’s Vacation Bible School July 16-20. VBS made the theme come to life with a white and blue cloud scene that covered the sanctuary.

“The theme of the week was “Sky: Everything is Possible with God.” We’re introducing Jesus to all children and hoping that children take the Lord home with them and keep him in their hearts,” said Children’s Choir Director, Ginny Eddy.

Campers enjoyed themselves as well as volunteers, who gained just as much knowledge from the VBS as children.

“You get to know each one of the kids and their personalities and how their lives reflect God. My favorite part would have to be story time with the pastor because he makes it interesting for kids to understand,” said volunteer Mark Jenkins.

While participants enjoyed a host of activities, such as, games, arts and crafts and Bible lessons. They also learned the valuable life lesson of giving back to others by donating money to the country of Mali in Africa to help buy mosquito nets to protect them from mosquitoes that carry Malaria.

“Our society is so me-based. We are supposed to be always giving to others and we’re trying to instill that in the children,” Eddy said.

Children from all over were welcome to participate and church members were elated at the large number of neighborhood children who participated. Although in the beginning campers may have been shy, by the end of the week they had set their fears aside, and made new friends.

“It’s been a positive experience and I think it’s wonderful. I had a lot of kids from the neighborhood and I’ve felt like they got a lot out of it. A lot of kids don’t get to experience the atmosphere of Jesus and I think it’s important to teach them about Jesus,” said Brandy Maurer.
