GE laying off 36 Monday

WARREN

General Electric is laying off 36 hourly positions at the Ohio Lamp plant on North Park Avenue, effective Monday.

Scott Moore, president of IUE-CWA Local 722, told 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, that the terminations are a result of legislation passed in July that outlawed incandescent light bulbs.

The layoffs leave 198 hourly employees at the plant.

Moore said other plants around the Ohio-Kentucky region will have layoffs as well, but could not say how many.

Workers who lose their jobs can receive benefits for one year, tuition reimbursement and unemployment pay.
