Campbell schedules tax amnesty days

Campbell has set up its income-tax subpoena and amnesty days for September, said the city’s finance director, Mike Evanson.
The city council has to approve the tax program details first and is expected to do so at its Sept. 5 meeting, Evanson said.
People and businesses who have not filed their income taxes with the Regional Income Tax Agency, which collects for Campbell, will be mailed subpoenas after Labor Day weekend, Evanson said Thursday.
They will be required to report to the council caucus room at the city building Sept. 24 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sept. 25 and 26 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to fill out the tax forms, Evanson said.
From there, they will have two choices. They can either be granted amnesty from interest and penalties if they pay what they owe in full. Or, they can get on a payment plan, Evanson said.
People who have filed but have not paid their taxes can have amnesty from penalties and interest if they pay in full, he said.
Taxpayers who are already in a payment plan cannot participate. The program also will not include taxpayers RITA has already taken legal action against, Evanson said.
Evanson said he does not know yet how many subpoenas will be mailed. Each one will cost the city $8.
