Patrons kicked back and relaxed on their favorite rocking chairs at the Austintown Cracker Barrel Old Country Store as part of the eighth annual Rocking for Epilepsy event to help raise money and awareness for Mahoning Valley Epilepsy July 21.

“It’s a great way to reach out to the community and help a worthwhile cause and educate the community. We’re founded on an old country image. It’s just like coming to grandma’s house and you just feel at home. People enjoy it. There’s entertainment, refreshments and people just give up their time and come out. I like to look at it as a great partnership,” said Cracker Barrel Old Country Store Retail Manager Patty Armstrong.

The event included free samples of food, music and a variety of games and prizes for its participants, some of which included, a Chinese auction, raffles and a host of games. While some enjoyed the rocking back and forth, others were just glad to support awareness for Epilepsy.

“It’s wonderful and definitely needed, and it’s good clean fun,” said Bonita Starkey.

The event was particularly special for Executive Director of the Mahoning Valley Epilepsy Fund, Janet Mau, whose son, Noah, has undergone three brain surgeries.

It’s my passion to help people who are diagnosed with Epilepsy so they can function at their optimum level. Everyone needs to know how to recognize it and how to support. Coming together, we’re able to lift one another up,” Mau said.
