I-680 ramp to close

YOUNGSTOWN

The entrance ramp from U.S. Route 62/state Route 7 to Interstate 680 southbound will close at 8 p.m. today and reopen at 6 a.m. Friday.

The detour will be Williamson Avenue to South Avenue, according to an Ohio Department of Transportation District 4 news release.

Girlfriend stabbed

A 28-year-old township woman is expected in Mahoning County Area Court here today to face charges of felonious assault and domestic violence.

Janell R. Thomas is accused of stabbing her girlfriend with a butcher knife during a July 19 argument, police said. The 26-year-old girlfriend told police Thomas stabbed her in the stomach after she refused to leave their Oregon Trail house with Thomas, according to reports.

Police arrested Thomas on Tuesday, and she is held without bond in the county jail.

Lisbon signal work

LISBON

Work will begin next week to upgrade traffic signals in the village.

Signals will be upgraded from Beaver Street to Jefferson Street so they are brought into compliance with the Ohio Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices, according to the Ohio Department of Transportation District 11.

Traffic will be maintained during the work.

ODOT’s contractor for the $291,000 project is Perram Electric Inc. from Wadsworth.

All work should be completed by May 2013.

Hubbard meeting

HUBBARD

The Hubbard Township trustees will have a special meeting at 7 p.m. today at the township administration building, 2600 Elmwood Drive.

During the meeting, the board will review housing demolitions under the Ohio Bank Settlement Program and authorize funding for the consolidation as proposed between the city of Hubbard and the township of Brookfield.

Firefighter benefit

NORTH LIMA

Mahoning County Fire Chiefs’ Association will have a benefit Saturday at the Youngstown Shrine Club on state Route 165.

Admission is $20 and food and beverages will be provided.

The benefit at 735 W. South Range Road will be from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m., and proceeds will help pay for firefighter training in Mahoning County.

Burma Drive to close

YOUNGSTOWN

Burma Drive between Oran Drive and Normandy Drive on the West Side will be closed noon to 9 p.m. Saturday for a community block party.
