Man dies in one-car accident in Springfield Township

NEW SPRINGFIELD — An elderly man was pronounced dead after a one-vehicle accident about 2 p.m. today in Springfield Township.

The man, whose identity wasn’t released by police late this afternoon, was driving a car that went off North Lima Road into a swampy marsh area just south of the Five Points intersection, said Springfield Police Chief Matthew Mohn.

Mohn said it appears the man may have suffered a medical emergency or died just before the accident. The Mahoning County Coroner’s office is investigating.
