DAs call for Penn State's fine to go to advocacy centers

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — Several Pennsylvania district attorneys are calling for funds from the $60 million in fines that Penn State must pay as part of NCAA sanctions to go toward children’s advocacy centers across the state.

Adams County District Attorney Shawn Wagner says the best way to help child sexual assault victims is to invest in services offered by the centers.

The Centre Daily Times reports that Wagner and other prosecutors made the first stop on a statewide tour promoting their position today in State College.

The fine was among strict NCAA penalties on the university for the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal. Sandusky is awaiting sentencing after being convicted in June on 45 criminal counts, including allegations of abuse on the Penn State campus or in State College.
