ValleyCats shut down Scrappers

The Mahoning Valley Scrappers were befuddled by Tri-City right-hander Brady Rodgers on Monday, managing just a run on five hits in six innings in the ValleyCats’ 5-1 victory.
Rodgers (5-2) struck out eight and didn’t walk a batter. Jeremiah Meiners worked the final three innings for his first save. Meiners allowed only one hit and struck out four.
The Scrappers’ only run came in the sixth, when Joe Sever singled with two outs and scored on a double by Evan Frazar.
Frazar, batting .291, also had two singles for Mahoning Valley (23-24).
Scrappers starting pitcher Jacob Lee matched Rodgers through four scoreless innings. Lee allowed only one hit and two walks. He struck out five.
But Tri-City (35-13) got to reliever Geoffrey Davenport (1-3) in the fifth. Jobduan Morales led off with a triple and Joe Sciafani singled to shortstop to drive in the game’s first run.
