Man who fired on FBI agents in Pa. faces sentence

PITTSBURGH (AP) — A fugitive wanted in a slaying more than a decade ago in Indiana faces sentencing by a federal judge in Pittsburgh on charges that he fired shots at federal agents during an armed standoff near Pittsburgh last fall.

Frank Perez Jr. pleaded guilty in March after his attorney said the evidence against him was “incontrovertible.” The defendant’s attorney says he wants to dispose of the Pittsburgh charges and be extradited to defend himself against charges that he killed a man in Whiting, Ind. in 1999.

The 31-year-old fugitive fired at least 20 shots when agents surrounded his home when they came to arrest him Oct. 4 in Verona. Perez faces at least 10 years in prison for the shootings.

Perez also allegedly fired on federal drug enforcement agents in Highland, Ind., in March 2004.
