Cafaro Co. nears decision on headquarters location

YOUNGSTOWN

The Cafaro Co. is nearing a decision on where its headquarters will be relocated.

Anthony Cafaro Sr., retired former president of the company, said during an event Tuesday that it might be moving out of its longtime home in Youngstown.

Cafaro was speaking at an event to recognize donors to Youngstown State University’s Watson and Tressel Training Site. The Cafaro family donated $1 million to the effort to build the site.

The company has been “kicking around” the idea of moving to a new facility for some time, said Joe Bell, director of corporate communications for The Cafaro Co. The company’s current headquarters on Belmont Avenue on the North Side of Youngstown is 50 years old.

“It doesn’t really fit our needs anymore,” he said.

No decision has been made at this time about where the company might relocate, Bell said. The expansion underway at the Eastwood Mall is not a possible location for a new Cafaro headquarters.

“We’ve considered a number of locations,” he said. “We certainly hope to have a decision made by the end of the year.”

The Cafaro Co. owns retail property throughout the United States. The company’s current holdings include more than 50 projects that total more than 30 million square feet of space.
