As the Olympics continue into the final week, here are five gold medalists who parlayed their triumphs into prime-time appearances of another sort:

v MARK SPITZ: The swimmer who won seven gold medals at the 1972 Games appeared in a 1974 episode of the action drama “Emergency,” playing a character who accidentally shot his wife (played by Spitz’s real-life wife, Suzy).

vSUMMER SANDERS: The two-time 1992 Olympic gold-medalist swimmer hosted the Nickelodeon game show “Figure It Out” (1997-99), co-hosted “Skating With Celebrities” (2006) and appeared on “The Celebrity Apprentice” (2010).

vKERRI WALSH- JENNINGS: The 2004 and ’08 beach volleyball medalist had a guest-starring role in a 2006 episode of “CSI: Miami” along with several other AVP Volleyball players.

vNASTIA LIUKIN: The 2008 gold-medal gymnast appeared in a “Gossip Girl” episode that year, sharing a scene with Chuck (Ed Westwick) and Blair (Leighton Meester) at the Snowflake Ball.

vSHAWN JOHNSON: Another 2008 gold-medal gymnast, she appeared in two episodes of “The Secret Life of the American Teenager” (2008 and 2010) and will be back this fall on the all-star edition of “Dancing With the Stars” (she won the show’s eighth season in 2009).

“Hard Knocks” (10 p.m., HBO): The “Hard Knocks” documentary series is back to take viewers behind the scenes of an NFL training camp. This season, the cameras follow the Miami Dolphins and new head coach Joe Philbin.

Open houses set

The Arms Family Museum, 648 Wick Ave., is hosting free open houses from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday and Aug. 15 in the Anne Kilcawley Christman Hands-On History Room this summer.

Traci Manning, curator of education, will demonstrat what life was like during the Civil War era with activities such as doing laundry with wash basins and wash boards, learning how to play graces, making some homemade butter and finding out what a Bilbo catcher is. Full house tours will be available at half price during open houses.

Festival planned

Traditional music – bluegrass, old-time, blues, folk, polka and more – will be the centerpiece of a daylong festival Aug. 18 in the Geauga County village of Burton.

The Raccoon County Music Festival is scheduled from noon to 8 p.m. at the Geauga County Historical Society’s Century Village Museum, 14653 E. Park St. There will be performances on four stages, a fiddle contest, square dancing, children’s songs and games, clogging and spontaneous jamming. There will be food for sale but event-goers are also permitted to bring their own meals and chairs and blankets.

Admission is $10 for those ages 13 and older; $4 for children ages 6-12; and free for children under 6.
