Scrappers fall to ValleyCats; Aviles hit hard

The Tri-City ValleyCats scored five runs in the third inning to seize control of Saturday’s 8-3 victory over the Mahoning Valley Scrappers.
Starter Robbie Aviles (0-2) took the loss for the Scrappers, giving up five earned runs in the two-and-two-thirds innings he pitched.
M.P. Cokinos and Dan Gulbransen led off the ValleyCats’ third inning with back-to-back homers for a 2-1 lead. Later in the inning, Cokinos contributed a RBI single.
The Scrappers’ Robel Garcia hit a RBI double then scored on a Logan Vick single in the seventh inning. Vick also scored the Scrappers’ first run in the first inning.
