HUBBARD

Beginning Monday, U.S. Route 62 (Main Street) between state Route 304 (West Liberty Street) and Interstate 80 will be closed until Friday for railroad repairs, according to the Ohio Department of Transportation website. The detour is state Route 304 to state Route 193 to I-80.

Killed in New Castle

NEW castle, pa.

A Youngstown man was shot to death outside the Elks Club on Moravia Street in New Castle, Pa., police said. New Castle police said that at 1:49 a.m. Friday, an officer in the area heard shots coming from the club. Officers arrived to find a large crowd fleeing from the parking lot. Marcus Edward Smith, 36, was lying in the parking lot with several gunshot wounds, police said. They did not provide an address for Smith. He was taken to Jameson Memorial Hospital, where he died. Police are asking anyone with information that could be helpful to call 724-656-3585.

New citizens in Valley

YOUNGSTOWN

Seven people became U.S. citizens this week at a naturalization ceremony before Judge Beth A. Smith of Mahoning County Domestic Relations Court. Their names, hometowns and countries of origin: Fayssal Moulay El Moujibi, Canfield, Morocco; Israt Jahan Bethy, Boardman, Bangladesh; Muhsine Grant, Canfield, Turkey; Maha Hassan Mufleh, Austintown, Palestine; Brenda Kathleen Bell, Austintown, United Kingdom; Ali Omran, Youngstown, Palestine; Judex Hyppolite, Boardman, Haiti.

Accessible trail

CORTLAND

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Mosquito Creek Lake are putting in a handicap-accessible trail at Lakeview Recreation Area. Construction started Thursday. The concrete for the trail will be poured Monday, and Corps officials said it will meet Americans with Disability Act requirements.

National Night Out

HUBBARD

City and township police are inviting residents to join them at Harding Park at 6 p.m. Tuesday for National Night Out. The event will include a car show at Kyle Pavilion, free raffles, face-painting for children, as well as hot dogs and hamburgers provided by the departments. National Night Out involves more than 15,000 communities from all 50 states and is designed to strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships.

Arrested on warrants

CAMPBELL

Campbell police arrested a man who was wanted on three warrants.

David Triplett, 20, of Indianola Avenue, Youngstown, was found with a stolen car at 11 a.m. Friday in Roosevelt Park, police said.

The stolen car was his mother’s, said Sgt. Dave Taybus. The warrants were from Struthers for a stolen vehicle, Mahoning County for burglary and Centerville for contempt of court. Triplett was taken to the Mahoning County jail.

Scrap tire pickup

MINERAL RIDGE

Weathersfield Township will pick up scrap tires Monday through Friday next week. Each household can place four tires at the curb. No truck tires will be accepted. All tires must be off their rims. Next week, township residents also are permitted to take tires to the township administration building, 1451 Prospect St., during normal business hours, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Couple rob Subway

YOUNGSTOWN

Employees of Subway restaurant, 830 E. Midlothian Blvd., reported that a black male with shoulder-length dreadlocks took about $2.50 from the tip jar at 3:04 p.m. Friday while disputing the amount of change he and a black female received from a clerk.

The man also tried reaching into the cash register, but the clerk closed the drawer and kept him from getting his hand inside. The pair fled in an unknown type of car, the employees said.

Both suspects were in their early 20s, and both were about 5 feet, eight inches and 180 pounds, the employees said. The woman had her hair in a ponytail and wore pink shorts and a white graphic T-shirt.
