A New Waterford man is in critical condition at a Youngstown hospital after an accident during a motocross event at the Columbiana County Fair.

According to a spokesman at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Clint Zentner, 22, was in the surgical intensive care unit Friday night. He had been flown by helicopter ambulance from the parking lot on Saltwell Road near the fairgrounds Thursday night following the crash.

Zentner was competing in the Bike A Class of the event, which was sponsored by the Western Reserve Motorcycle Club. No police report was available with details of the accident, but unconfirmed reports from witnesses indicated Zentner was struck by another competitor’s motorcycle after his own Kawasaki dirt bike crashed on the motocross track in front of the grandstands.

Competition continued after Zentner was transported to the hospital, although one spectator said subsequent classes seemed to be going at a slower pace after the crash
