Old-fashioned cars lined up in the parking lot of the Austintown Quaker Steak and Lube during the car show for a good cause July 22.

“I started this event a week after the restaurant opened and everyone is welcome. We have probably 500 to 550 cars every Sunday. Every penny generated goes to a cause. We always concentrate on local kids. This year, we joined with the Austintown Fire Department,” said car show coordinator Dick Frost.

While patrons ate and enjoyed the weather, they also took advantage of the opportunity to spend some quality time with friends and family members. People walked up and down the parking lot gazing at countless automobiles that were in excellent condition. Some cars brought back memories of youthful years for their owners.

“I grew up with this stuff. This is all relevant to your age and what you remember when you’re young. Instead of sitting on the back porch, you can come here and talk,” said Bob Wilson.

Other car owners were excited to show off the prized possessions that they’d worked so diligently on.

David Schott, who began working on his 1972 Plymouth Satellite in 2009, was very pleased to present his hard work.

“It’s very enjoyable. This took me about 2 1/2 years and I restored basically all of the car. I’m very proud of something that I spent so much time on,” he said.

Frost was pleased with the outcome of the event, and even more excited to be able to be around cars while helping his community.

“It’s one of the most enjoyable things in the world,” Frost said.
