Poland football tickets

Poland High School will begin selling football tickets in the athletic office from 9 a.m.-noon and 1-3 p.m. On Aug. 13-17 current reserve season ticket holders can get their tickets and parking passes and new reserve season tickets will be sold Aug. 20-24. General admission tickets will go on sale Aug. 20.

Run with the Rockets

The Lowellville volleyball team will be hosting Run with the Rockets, a 5K run and 1-mile fun walk in Lowellville on Aug. 18. For more information, visit www.runwiththerockets.yolasite.com.

Mooney football to play St. Ignatius

Defending state champion Cardinal Mooney will open its 2012 football season with a showdown against defending Division I state champion Cleveland St. Ignatius Aug. 25 at 7 p.m. at Cleveland Browns Stadium. The game is part of a doubleheader slated as the 44th Charity Game sponsored by the Cleveland Browns’ Foundation.

St. Ignatius and Cardinal Mooney have won 19 Ohio state championships between them. Tickets for the match-up are $10 in advance and $12 on game day and are available through the school treasurer’s office. One ticket will be good for both games. The first game of the day will feature North Royalton and Broadview Heights at 2 p.m.

BB Baseball to host camp

BB Baseball will be conducting an instructional camp on Aug. 5 at the Westminster College baseball field in Wilmington, Pa. The camp instructors will be Westminster head baseball coach Tim Mulligan and professional baseball scout and head coach at Carnegie Mellon University, Claudio Reilsono. The camp will cover all aspects of the game and will begin at 10 a.m. and end at 1 p.m.

YSU football team ranked 17th preseason

Youngstown State University is ranked 17th by the College Sporting News in its 2012 NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision preseason poll.

Other Missouri Valley Football Conference members, North Dakota State and the University of Northern Iowa, are ranked No. 1 and No. 9, respectively, in the poll, which is conducted by the staff of College Sporting News.

Immediately behind YSU in the top-25 poll is MVFC member Illinois State, while Indiana State is 22nd. Southern Illinois also received votes.

Basketball officiating classes start Sept. 17

An Ohio High School Athletic Association basketball referee training class for prospective officials will begin Sept. 17.

The classes — at Newton Falls High School over an approximately two-month period — will prepare individuals to officiate basketball games for the 2012-2013 season.
