Photo safari planned
Youngstown
“A Photo Safari to Tanzania” will be presented by Ralph Malmer at 7 p.m. Monday at the Universal Cafe at First Unitarian Universalist Church, 1105 Elm St.
The local photographer and naturalist will talk and show slides about his recent trip to Tanzania. He has won numerous local awards for his photography at the Austintown and Mill Creek Park Nature Photography exhibits and Area Artists show at Butler Institute of American Art.
Doors open at 6:30 with light foods available for purchase before the program. Suggested donation is $3.
Theft at flea market
YOUNGSTOWN
Police are looking for two teens who shoved an elderly woman to the ground and ran off with her purse at a flea market on McCartney Road.
According to police, the 81-year-old woman was leaving the Four Seasons Flea Market at about 11 a.m. Wednesday with her elderly husband when they were approached by two black males appearing to be teens. The boys pushed her and snatched her purse from her arm.
Police searched the area but could not find the thieves.
Arson in Hickory
new castle, pa.
A mobile home fire in a Hickory Township, Pa., trailer park was deliberately set, state police in New Castle said.
Fire departments responded to the fire at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at 145 Independence Lane in the Gaslight Mobile Home Park.
The owners came home from vacation a short time later.
The state police fire marshal ruled the fire an arson. He discovered an accelerant, police said.
Burglars stole an undetermined amount of jewelry before setting the fire, police said.
Police are asking anyone with information to call 724-598-2211. Calls will be kept confidential.
Park board meets
Boardman
The Board of Park Commissioners will have its monthly meeting at 3:30 p.m. today in the Georgeanna Parker Activity Center at Boardman Township Park, 375 Boardman-Poland Road.
Road closing
YOUNGSTOWN
Mahoning County commissioners voted to close North Hubbard Road between McGuffey and County Line roads in Coitsville from Wednesday through next Friday to replace a culvert. The county engineer’s office said traffic will be detoured along McGuffey, to state Route 616, to County Line.
Pretrial in $175K theft
YOUNGSTOWN
A Boardman woman who was indicted on a theft charge last June had a pretrial Thursday that resulted in another pretrial hearing being agreed to for a later unannounced date.
Lori Lamb, 51, is accused of stealing about $175,000 from her former employer, Morris Drain Service on Simon Road.
Lamb was indicted June 30, 2011, and turned herself in to Boardman police last Friday, where she was booked and released on summons to appear at her arraignment.
