Lemieux's brother partners in Pa. ice rink purchase
NEW KENSINGTON, Pa. (AP) — The brother of Pittsburgh Penguins owner and Hall of Famer Mario Lemieux is part of a group buying a suburban ice-rink complex that will include a hockey training academy.
The Alain Lemieux Hockey Academy will be housed at what is now the Valley Sports Complex in New Kensington, about 20 miles northeast of Pittsburgh.
A group headed by Andrew Virostek, who owns a deck hockey facility in nearby Murrysville, is buying the complex from Allegheny Valley Bank. The complex, which includes two ice rinks and a gymnasium, has been in receivership since the bank sued the previous owners for nearly $4 million in debt.
The new owners, Pittsburgh Ice Arena LP, plan to close on the deal in September, but are already making improvements, including new lighting.
