Children embraced their love of nature during Vacation Bible School at St. Joseph Church July 9-13.

The theme of the week was ‘National Park.’ and each activity corresponded with things of nature. The church looked more like a forest as trees covered the walls and stuffed animals lurked around the building.

“We used Christmas trees and set them up in the hallways. We drew mountains, bears, rivers and lakes. It’s a great way for kids to get outside of their house and it’s a completely different environment than school. It teaches them a lot of great values that they don’t get throughout the summer,” said Coordinator of Religious Education Jocelyn Welsh.

Although some campers were shy at the beginning, they eventually livened up and enjoyed the many activities provided, which included games, crafts and music.

“They start out very quiet and reserved, but then they begin answering questions and participating. They also have very good insight. It’s amazing how strong their faith is,” Welsh said.

Children also learned valuable life skills, as each lesson focused on five key principles, including peace, true riches, hope, love and power.
