Canfield accepting nominations for Hall of Fame
Canfield High School is taking nominations for the next class of the school’s athletic Hall of Fame. Nominations are being solicited from the public for former boy and girl CHS athletes from the class of 2002 and earlier who distinguished themselves at Canfield and/or afterward as well.
Deserving contributors/supporters from the coaching ranks or community at-large are eligible, too.
Nomination forms are available in the high school athletic office. Plans call for announcing the selectees in early December with official ceremonies tentatively being held in February. For more information, can call 330-533-5341 or send e-mail to gcooper@canfieldschools.net.
Canfield football to host meet-the-team dinner
The Canfield football team will have a dinner/fundraiser on Aug. 18 from noon-6 p.m. in the Canfield High School cafeteria. The meal includes steak, potatoes, corn, salad, dessert and beverages. The cost is $15 for adults and children 11 and up, $10 for children ages 5-10, and children 4 and under eat free. There will also be a Chinese auction, 50/50 raffle, and silent auction. Walk-ins are welcome and carryout will be available.
Run with the Rockets
The Lowellville volleyball team will be hosting Run with the Rockets, a 5K run and 1-mile fun walk in Lowellville on Aug. 18. For more information, visit www.runwiththerockets.yolasite.com.
Softball Fall Classic to be held in September

Mooney football to play St. Ignatius
Defending state champion Cardinal Mooney will open its 2012 football season with a showdown against defending Division I state champion Cleveland St. Ignatius Aug. 25 at 7 p.m. at Cleveland Browns Stadium. The game is part of a doubleheader slated as the 44th Charity Game sponsored by the Cleveland Browns’ Foundation.
St. Ignatius and Cardinal Mooney have won 19 Ohio state championships between them. Tickets for the match-up are $10 in advance and $12 on game day and are available through the school treasurer’s office. One ticket will be good for both games. The first game of the day will feature North Royalton and Broadview Heights at 2 p.m.
BB Baseball camp
BB Baseball will be conducting an instructional camp on Sunday at the Westminster College baseball field in Wilmington, Pa. The camp instructors will be Westminster head baseball coach Tim Mulligan and professional baseball scout and head coach at Carnegie Mellon University, Claudio Reilsono. Canfield sport teams begin action Monday
Several middle school and high school varsity sports in Canfield will begin action on Monday.
Boys and girls cross country will meet at the high school at 5 p.m., boys golf will start at Diamondback at 7:15 a.m. and girls golf will get underw ay at Mill Creek at 7:20 a.m.
Seventh-grade football starts at 8 a.m. at Village Middle School and seventh-grade volleyball begins drill at the high school at 8 a.m. Eighth-grade volleyball gets under way at Village Middle at 7:30 a.m. and high school volleyball resumes action at the high school gym at 1 p.m.
