The Canfield soccer club kicked off its recreational season at its annual players clinic on June 16. The clinic was held at the Herbert Road Fields under the direction of Phil Simone, Canfield High School boys and girls soccer coach and his players.
Stations were set up throughout the fields for the 175 players of all ages who spent time at each station learning different aspects of soccer from the high school players. When time was up and the whistle was blown, the players, who were broken up into age groups, moved on to the next station.
The high school players at the stations taught the players basic soccer skills and age-appropriate drills, such as dribbling, passing and practicing goal kicks.
“Our recreational league works closely with the high school program. We are unique in that aspect. We would like to thank Coach Simone and his players for all their help and support,” said Brian Governor, Canfield Soccer Club Recreational League president. Recreational team coaches were also on hand to help the players and get a sense for their teams.
“The players and coaches are ready to start the recreational season. It‘s going to be a great season,” said Governor.
