Youngstown

Jamz 101.9 is hosting its second annual Tools for School Fill the Bus Campaign and Tools for School Motorcycle Run to benefit Youngstown City Schools.

The public is encouraged to come and fill a bus with school supplies for children from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on these days and locations: Today at Charlie Staples Restaurant, 372 W. Rayen Ave.; Friday at Union Square Plaza at Belmont Avenue and Gypsy Lane; and Saturday at Southland Crossing Plaza, South Avenue and Doral Drive, Boardman.

The Tools for School Motorcycle Run, which also generates proceeds to purchase school supplies, will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Buckeye Elks, 421 North Ave. Motorcycles are scheduled to leave at noon.

Free programs

Youngstown

Mill Creek MetroParks will host two free educational programs Sunday.

Bug Day will take place at the MetroParks Farm in Canfield from noon until 4 p.m. The event is devoted to learning about insects and their relatives. Children will play games such as Bug Bingo, hunt for bugs, race bugs, view bugs through microscopes, learn about bees and earn a “Master of Bugology” degree. Family Garden Day will take place at Fellows Riverside Gardens from 1 to 4 p.m. Children and their families can spend the afternoon enjoying plants, crafts, storytelling and a snack in the Family Garden. Visitors can view the butterfly garden as well as other displays. For more information, call 330-740-7116. The event is sponsored by Akron Children’s Hospital.

Energy assistance

The Mahoning-Youngs-town Community Action Partnership (MYCAP) Home Energy Assistance/Summer Crisis program continues through Aug. 31. Appointments for benefits can be scheduled by calling 866-223-1125.

A disconnection notice is not required to be eligible. A limited number of air conditioners are available. Income eligible applicants can receive a one-time electric assistance payment of up to $250 and/or an air conditioner if household members would benefit medically by an air conditioner, and must not have received an air conditioner in 2009, 2010 or 2011. Pleads innocent

WARREN

Ryan L. Palm, 21, of Robbins Avenue, Niles, pleaded innocent in Warren Municipal Court to misdemeanor attempted breaking and entering and three counts of possessing criminal tools for allegedly trying to break into the Sac of Suds laundromat, 1074 Summit St. NW.

Police said they saw Palm walking from the laundromat at 1:03 a.m. Monday wearing dark clothes, a pair of latex gloves and in possession of a crow bar, pry bar and sledge hammer.

Police could see that someone had attempted to break out the block on the rear of the laundromat.

A judge set Palm’s bond at $10,000.

Paving project

BOARDMAN

Motorists should take care near the Glenwood Avenue-U.S. Route 224 intersection, where the Mahoning County Engineer’s Office has a paving project under way. Traffic was backed up Wednesday about noon because of repaving work on Glenwood at Southwoods Boulevard to Ewing Road.
