GIRARD

A Liberty Township man accused of shooting a pregnant woman has been bound over to a Trumbull County grand jury.

Tadarrell D. Mason, 19, of Townsend Avenue, waived his right to a preliminary hearing when he appeared in Girard Municipal Court Wednesday and was bound over.

Mason faces one count of felonious assault after township police said he shot a 21-year-old pregnant woman twice in the leg and once in the abdomen July 23.

The woman was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center, where she and her unborn child were treated for non-life threatening injuries,

The maximum sentence for the second-degree felony is eight years in prison, with an additional three years for using a firearm.

After he was arrested, Mason was taken to the Liberty police department.

While he was being questioned, Mason is accused of striking an officer in the head with a phone, which resulted in an assault charge against him, police said.

The fourth-degree felony could tack on an additional 18 months to his prison term if convicted.

Mason is in Trumbull County Jail.

The Girard court has jurisdiction of cases that come from Liberty Township.
