Child hit by car
NEW castle, Pa.
A child was rushed to the hospital after being struck by a car on New Castle’s lower east side.
The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, 21 WFMJ-TV, reported the accident happened around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the area of Spruce and Oak streets.
The child was taken to a nearby hospital. No condition was available Wednesday night. The driver who hit the child was being questioned by police.
Three dogs rescued from burning home
SHARON, pa.
A family of five was displaced in Sharon, Pa., after fire damaged part of their home.
Fire crews responded to 576 Logan Ave. just before 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to The Vindicator’s news partner, 21 WFMJ-TV.
No one was home, and several neighbors tried to save some of the family’s pets. Three dogs were rescued.
The cause of the blaze has not yet been determined. The family does not have insurance.
Mobile home destroyed
NEW CASTLE, PA.
Residents of a Hickory Township mobile home were away when flames broke out in the Gas Light mobile home park Wednesday morning.
Firefighters spent two hours trying to save the structure, but said it’s a total loss, The Vindicator’s news partner, 21 WFMJ-TV, reported.
There was no word on what caused the fire. No injuries were reported.
2nd West Nile case
CLEVELAND
Ohio health officials are confirming the state’s second human case of West Nile virus this year.
The state Department of Health confirmed the virus Wednesday in a 48-year-old man in Cuyahoga County, near Cleveland. He was hospitalized with inflammation of the brain.
The first case, confirmed Friday, involved an 85-year-old man hospitalized in Clermont County near Cincinnati.
The agency says more than 445 mosquito pools have tested positive for the virus so far this year, a jump from under 60 around this time last year.
