In a delightfully twisted bit of casting, Kathy Bates plays the cigar-smoking spirit who visits Alan (Jon Cryer) in the hospital after he has a heart attack.

“hawaii five-o” (10 p.m., cbs): It’s crossover time for “Hawaii Five-0” and “NCIS: Los Angeles” as special agents Hanna and Callen (LL Cool J, Chris O’Donnell) arrive in paradise to pursue a thug who is threatening to release a deadly virus into the population. The conclusion airs Tuesday on “NCIS: Los Angeles.”
