GOOD MORNING
community day
Boardman Township’s annual Community Day is set for 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 19. The event will have kids activities, including a bounce-around and touch-a-truck. Free balloons will be given to the first 200 children, and refreshments will be available for residents. Community Day will be at the township government center, 8299 Market St.
library improvement
The Austintown Library, 600 S. Raccoon Road, will close temporarily beginning May 14 so that flooring can be replaced.
The branch is expected to reopen in mid-June.
Wooden flooring in the entrance and center aisle of the library is worn and in need of replacement. Carpeting and ceramic tile will be used.
The project is expected to cost $39,908, with work being done by The Home Works and AFC Advanced Floor Coverage.
The library will extend due dates on items checked out at Austintown Library that would have been due back during this closed period. Extended-use fees for items checked out at the library will not accrue during the days the branch is closed.
Book drops outside the library will be available while the branch is closed, however.
Empty medicine cabinet
The ASAP Coalition will have “Operation: Empty Medicine Cabinet” from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 9 at the Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste Management District, 5138 Enterprise Drive, Warren, off Parkman Road Northwest, near the Route 5 Bypass.
Officers from the Trumbull Ashtabula Law Enforcement Task Force will collect and destroy prescription drugs. The officers will accept unused or expired drugs in original containers.
This is the fifth drug-recovery event sponsored by the ASAP Coalition. It helps limit the misuse of drugs by children and teens who often get the drugs from their family’s medicine cabinets.
Greenhouse friends
Friends of the Greenhouse Consortium and the Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership will have free gardening classes from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 19 and 26 and June 2 and 16 at the Packard Park Greenhouse, Warren.
The classes are for anyone wishing to gain basic skills in gardening. All ages are welcome. The May classes will cover soil, seeds and site; plant choices; and fertilizers. The June classes will cover plant pathology and insects; and vegetables and herbs. For information, call 330-372-3889.
