Priest found dead in Youngstown
youngstown
Parishioners at Holy Trinity Church on Laird Avenue found the body of their priest between the church and the parish house Saturday, Youngstown police reported.
Police found the body of the Rev. Janko Rajlich, 74, face down in the grass.
Father Rajlich’s clothing was in disarray, one of his shoes was 10 feet away from his body and his glasses were three feet away, a police report said. A silver watch was in the grass nearby, where a bloodstain was discovered, the report says. Rajlich had cuts on his face and his false teeth were out of his mouth.
The coroner’s office is investigating, police said.
Recycling event at Covelli deemed a big success
Youngstown
Youngstown Litter Control and Recycling estimates that more than 2,000 area residents brought more than 150,000 pounds of electronics to the Covelli Centre Saturday for recycling.
Program Coordinator Jennifer Jones said the amount is six times the amount collected last year. The exact amount won’t be known for a few days, she said.
The wait was sometimes 45 minutes, but participants were patient and grateful for the opportunity to dispose of their TVs, computers, monitors, and other electronics in an environmentally friendly way, Jones said.
She noted that because of the huge turnout, plans are being discussed for a subsequent recycling drive in the fall.
