Woman faces charge of assault after her car hits cop cruiser

A city woman is facing a felonious assault charge after hitting a police cruiser with her car while fleeing a shoplifting scene.

Qy’shon T. Jackson, 19, of Youngstown is charged with theft, failure to comply with order of a police signal, child endangering and felonious assault.

She was with her sister, Floayeshia L. Robinson, 21, of Youngstown, who is charged with misdemeanor theft, and a 17-year-old city girl, who also is charged with misdemeanor theft and possession of tobacco by a minor.

Police were called to Dots clothing store in the Boardman Plaza about 3 p.m. Thursday for three shoplifters who had taken about $20 worth of merchandise, reports state.

The employee gave officers a description of the three and the license-plate number of the car, police said.

A Boardman officer tried to stop the suspected car on Market Street, north of U.S. Route 224, and the car eventually slowed near the entrance to Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley.

Police said the car was moving slowly and looked as if it were going to stop, so one police cruiser traveled ahead of it and stopped. The suspects’ car then hit the back of the cruiser, which was in front of the hospital, and the driver later told police her brakes didn’t work, according to reports.

The women were ordered out of the car at gunpoint and handcuffed, and they declined medical care, police said. An ambulance crew examined Jackson’s 2-year-old daughter who was not restrained in a child seat, reports stated.

Two Boardman police officers originally responded to the call, and six other officers joined them on scene.
