Recycle electronics, turn in medications

YOUNGSTOWN

An electronics recycling drive and a pharmaceutical- disposal drive will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today.

The electronics drive will be at the Covelli Centre, 229 E. Front St., where old and broken TV sets, computers, monitors, printers, cell phones, DVD and VCR units, keyboards, mice, stereos, table top copiers and personal fax machines will be accepted.

There will be no charge for recycling any of these items.

Floor-model copiers and fax machines will not be accepted in this drive, which is sponsored by Youngstown Litter Control and Recycling.

The other drive is the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s pharmaceutical take-back initiative. Mahoning County residents may drop off expired or unneeded medications at St. Elizabeth Health Center, 1044 Belmont Ave., or at the Austintown, Boardman, Canfield, New Middletown or Beaver Township police departments. COLUMBIANA

The 21st annual Columbiana High School Art Exhibit opens today in the Salchow Room of the Columbiana Public Library, 332 N. Middle St., during regular library hours.

Original works have been created and arranged for display by teacher Nadine Martin’s art students. The exhibit, which is free, is open 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today to next Saturday but closed Sunday.

Law scholarships

Youngstown

The Mahoning County Bar Association Foundation, the charitable arm of the bar association, is accepting applications for scholarships to attend law school.

Besides general scholarships awarded by the foundation, there also are scholarships in memory of Attys. Irwin I. Kretzer, Harlan Small and Robert J. Boyd.

Crime lab renamed

YOUNGSTOWN

The crime lab at the Youngstown Police Department soon will be renamed in honor of Joseph DeMatteo, who served with the police department 34 years before retiring in 2009. He was ranked as a detective/sergeant with the department and acted as Commander of the Crime Lab and Bomb Squad divisions.

DeMatteo died in 2011.

Run closes park roads

Youngstown

Several roads in Mill Creek Park will be closed today from 7 to 11 a.m. Cross, West and Bears Den drives will be closed for the Fitness Together/Mill Creek 5K Walk/Run.

Autism benefit today

Austintown

A fundraiser to benefit children with autism will be at Austintown Township Park today. The event is from noon to 5 p.m., with a walk beginning at 1 p.m., at the park off Kirk Road in Austintown. Attendees can participate in an auction, kite flying, concessions and face painting and will be able to see township firetrucks and police cruisers.

Spring plant sale

The Spring Plant Sale, sponsored by the Horticulture program at the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center, starts Monday.

Horticulture students have prepared items including assorted annuals, hanging baskets, patio planters and fresh tomatoes and peppers.

The Horticulture Green House will be open 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Friday at the MCCTC on Palmyra Road in Canfield. The sale will be through May or until all items are sold.
