Mill Creek Park will host lecturer

As part of its Garden Author Lecture series, Mill Creek MetroParks will host topiary artist Pearl Fryar at 7 p.m. May 10 at Fellows Riverside Gardens. Fryar, a wizard with electric hedge trimmers and a frequent guest on HGTV, has a personal topiary garden in Bishopville, S.C., that has been designated a Preservation Project by the Garden Conservancy. The fee to attend is $10.

Fryar also will conduct a topiary demonstration at 9 a.m. May 11, National Public Gardens Day, in the same location.

A discussion about hydrangeas for the landscape, presented by Bill Hendricks of Klyn Nurseries, will follow at 11 a.m. The fee for either of the two Friday programs is $5.

UPMC foundation will sell hanging baskets

The UPMC Horizon Community Health Foundation will host its annual Mother’s Day plant sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 9 at the WomanCare Center of UPMC Horizon, 875 N. Hermitage Road, Hermitage, Pa., and in the Shenango Valley campus lobby, 2200 Memorial Dr., Farrell, Pa.; May 10 in the Shenango Valley campus lobby and in the Greenville campus lobby, 110 N. Main St., Greenville, Pa.; and May 11 in the Greenville campus lobby. Hanging baskets will be priced at $19.98, and all proceeds will benefit foundation projects.
