Talks regarding election law continue

Ohio lawmakers and opponents of a new election law are still trying to reach an agreement over restoring early voting opportunities in the presidential battleground.

House leaders have delayed a vote on a bill to repeal the law in an attempt to try to find middle ground.

Republican Gov. John Kasich on Thursday said he’s encouraged legislators to go back to the table.

The GOP-backed election law trims early voting days, among other changes, but has been on hold since September, when opponents gathered enough signatures to put a referendum on fall ballots.

The repeal bill’s sponsor says he can’t change his measure to include in-person voting during the three days before Election Day. But state Sen. Bill Coley says he’s open to adding the idea in another bill.
