Police arrest man as suspect in bank robbery, West Side store robbery


YOUNGSTOWN — Police arrested a 48-year-old man believed to be responsible for at least one bank robbery and the robbery of a West Side business.

John Knapp Byrns was taken into custody Thursday evening at a home in the 1900 block of Midlothian Boulevard on two robbery warrants.

He is suspected of committing the bank robbery at PNC Bank on Meridian Road Wednesday. He is also suspected of committing a robbery at the Italian Specialties Store on Canfield Road on March 25.

Byrns is being treated a local hospital on a medical emergency unrelated to his capture. Upon his release from the hospital, he will be arraigned in Youngstown Municipal Court.
