Police investigate robbery of gift card

Township police are investigating a robbery in which two women took a $175 Visa gift card from Family Dollar, 4030 Market St.

Police said the robbery occurred about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

An employee told officers that two women were in the process of buying a Visa gift card with store credit cards and when questioned about payment, the women began to leave, according to reports.

Another store employee said one of the woman appeared to be a man dressed like a woman, police said.

Vienna boil alert extended into today

VIENNA

A boil alert issued in Vienna Township on Tuesday has been extended into today.

The alert was issued after crews working on a sewer project at the intersection of Smith-Stewart Road and state Route 193 hit gas and waterlines.

The boil-alert area is from Smith-Stewart south on Route 193 to 4740 Belmont Ave.

During a boil alert, residents should boil tap water used for cooking and drinking for three to five minutes.

Accepting orders for Smart Choice Food

New Hope United Methodist Church, 21 Fairview Ave., is accepting orders for Smart Choice Food from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, from 11 a.m. to noon Wednesday, from 7 to 8 p.m. May 3, and from 3 to 5 p.m. May 5.

Boxes range in size from $20 to $35 and include meat, fruit and vegetables, senior meals and kids meals. There are no income restrictions or guidelines.

Pre-order and pre-pay with cash, money orders or food stamps. Mail orders will be accepted with payment by postal, bank money orders or certified check made out to New Hope UM Church. Payment and orders must reach the church before May 5. To receive a receipt, enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope.

Online ordering closes at 6 p.m. May 7. The address is www.smartchoicefood.com. A 3 percent handling charge will be added to all online orders.

Distribution date is 9 to 10 a.m. May 19. A community breakfast will be served from 9 to 11 a.m.

Cleanup planned

The nonprofit organizations Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership and Weed and Seed will have a cleanup (weather permitting) at 9 a.m. Saturday at Quinby Park on Austin Avenue Southwest. Participants are asked to bring rakes, shovels and other tools.
