Canton

Dawood Engineering Inc. has expanded into the Ohio region with the opening of an office in Canton.

The company’s work with natural-gas and shale development led to the opportunities in the state.

“Due to our increasing activity in the region, we feel that establishing the new location allows Dawood to expand services to this growing area and better serve our clients,” said Bony Dawood, company president. “We look forward to staffing the office with highly qualified individuals from surrounding Ohio communities.”

The company does consulting work in areas such as transportation, energy, land planning/site development, survey and mapping, traffic analysis/design, geotechnical, geophysical, environmental and water/wastewater. For information, go to www.dawood.cc.

Allegiant earnings

VIENNA

Allegiant Travel Co., which operates at the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport, has declared a 23.1 percent profit for the first quarter of 2012 compared with the previous year.

The company released its earnings Wednesday. Allegiant, based in Nevada, reported an operating income of $36.3 million and an operating margin of 15.3 percent for the first quarter. This compares with $27.8 million in operating income and a 14.4 percent margin in the previous year.

Allegiant reported a net income for the quarter of $21.7 million with earnings of $1.12 per share.

Allegiant closed Wednesday on the NASDAQ at $59.74 per share.
