Warhol, Anderson advance to nationals

Poland’s Anna Warhol and East Palestine’s Faith Anderson recently qualified for the Junior Olympic national gymnastics competition, which will be held May 5 in Baltimore, Md.
Warhol, a seventh grader at Glenwood Middle School, placed fifth in the all-around in her age group with a score of 36.775 at the recent USA Gymnastics Level 9 and Level 10 regional championships in Indianapolis. The top six in each age group advanced to nationals.
Anderson, a seventh grader at Ohio Virtual Academy, placed seventh in the all-around to qualify as a first alternate.
The girls train at Youngstown Gymnastics Center under coaches Sandy Sabo and Courtney Schuller. Both are Level 9 gymnasts.
Other gymnasts that competed at regionals were Level 10 gymnasts Jennifer Sklenar, 16, of Canfield; Allie Anderson, 17, of Canfield and Jessica Jones, 15, of Canfield. Hannah Estephan, 14, of Boardman competed in Level 9.
Next weekend is the Level 8 regional in Bourbonnais, Ill. Four Youngstown Gymnastics Center athletes will compete: Kailah Vargo, 14, of Canfield; Gabby Williams, 14, of Poland; Jamie Sklenar, 13, of Canfield; and Mya Kasten, 13, of Canfield. Williams and Sklenar will represent Ohio, while Vargo and Kasten will compete as All-Stars.
